Explore the Near West Side in the 1920s

Click on the maps below to tour the Near West Side with circa-1923 Marquette students!

These tours were inspired by an account in the Marquette Hilltop of upperclassmen hazing younger students by picking them up in cars on campus, driving them to South Milwaukee, and leaving them to find their own way back to campus. The map is derived from Wright's Map of Milwaukee, 1923, courtesy of the American Geographical Society Library in the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee.
